APPEARED PERSONALLY David Cooper of the Parish of Saint James Westminster in the County of Middlesex a Bachelor of the age of twenty one years and upwards and prayed a Licence for the Solemnization of Matrimony in the Parish Church of Longham in the County of Norfolk between him and Barbara Ann Hastings of the Parish of Longham aforesaid a Spinster of the age of twenty one years and upwards and made Oath that he believeth there is no impediment of Kindred or Alliance, or of any other lawful Cause, nor any Suit commenced in any Ecclesiastical Court to bar or hinder the Proceedings of the said Matrimony, according to the Tenor of such Licence. And he further made Oath, that the said Barbara Ann Hastings hath had her usual Place of Abode within the said Parish of Longham for the Space of Fifteen Days past.

From the diary of Barbara Anne Hastings :-
"Tuesday Morning Oct 8th 1839 was ushered in by the sun which shone most brilliantly upon the little church at Longham were about nine o’clock the Reved B Bowles (my uncle) united dear David & myself – Our whole party, chiefly relatives to the number twenty one accompanied us thither together with our servants, the school children, a few of the villagers. The busy hands of my sisters to be had the day previous decorated that part of the garden through which we had to pass with plants & flowers; flowers also strewed the path & formed on the whole a pretty effect. On our return to the house dear David presented the children who came up two by two, with each a fourpenny piece, new from the Mint. Nor did the mistress & others of the household remain without monies. "
