From the Times :-
"LIEUTENANT-GENERAL FREDERICK WILLIAM SWINHOE, R.A. (retired, died at Westbourne-gardens, Folkstone, on August 14, in his 86th year. General Swinhoe, who entered the Army in 1840, served in the campaign against the Belochees in 1845, in the Pujab campaign of 1848-9, including the siege of Mooltan and the battles of Gujarat and Chilliamwallah (two medals and three clasps), and in the expedition against the Hazzunzaes on the north-West Frontier in 1852-54. He commanded a brigade of artillery at Barrackpur in 1863-72, and also the 16th Brigade at Mean Mir in 1872-77. He was the son of General Samuel Swinhoe, Bengal Army, of Eslington-house, Cheltenham, and he married, in 1849, Anne, daughter of Major J. R. Talbot, Bengal Army."
