Research Note.8

From "The Black Book" in the Norwich Record Office:-
"He had been a sailor and was called "Capt. Barker". He was present at the Battle of Copenhagen & on one occasion brought despatches from India from Wellington (before he became Duke). He lived at Tannington on death of Wm. Ray his father-in-law, at Hastings in 1833 & finally at Chapel Field in Norwich in a house demolished long prior to 1900. He was knocked down by a rider running against him as he walked home one evening from Thorpe & died from concussion"
