From the Times :-
"On Wednesday, the 1st inst., at his residence in Carmarthen, Major-General Sir William Nott, G.C.B., of the Bengal Army, aged 62 years, 11 months, and 12 days."

From the Asiatic Journal and Monthly Miscellany :-
"Sir William Nott was twice married; his first wife was the daughter of Mr Henry Swinhoe, and attorney in the Supreme Court at Calcutta. The issue of that marriage is two sons, two unmarried daughters and one married daughter, now in India One of the sons is in the church; the other in the Bengal Army. By his will, dated in September 1843, he has left his two unmarried daughters GBP 3,500, and the residue of his property to his widow, in addition to her marriage settlement of GBP 3,500. He bought Job's Well for GBP 3,600, a few months before his death; but the assets of the estate it is said, will be little more than sufficient to cover the debts."

From the Morning Post :-
"It is our melancholy duty to announce that Major-General Sir William Nott, G.C.B., died on the 1st of January, at about a quarter before two A.M.
For some time past, it has been deemed impossible that the General could recover, and, in fact, he has been lying in a state of insensibility for the last two or three days.
The nature of the disease, an enlargement of the heart, precluded all probability of his existing for any lengthened period, although it was hoped that his native air would invigorate him to live for some years in the possession of his hard earned honours. The severity of the weather, however, joined in the state of weakness to which he was reduced by the forced journeys he was compelled to take in order to reach Wales, and the excitement upon the triumphal reception he met with at each town on his route, all combined to weaken a constitution naturally strong, but which had been exposed to the numerous vicissitudes of an Indian climate. The late General Nott was born in the year 1786, at Neath, Glamorganshire, and was, consequently, in the 65th year of his age"
