From the Times :-
“Sir Charles Robert Tyser died in a nursing home at Annecy, France, in his 78th year, He was educated at Rugby and Trinity College, Cambridge, and was called to the Bar by the Inner Temple. He went to the South-Eastern Circuit. In 1886 he was appointed Attorney-General of the Leeward Islands, and in 1895 began his long association with Cyprus, first as president of the District Court of Krenia, then as a Puisne Judge, and finally, from 1906 to 1919, as Chief Justice. He was knighted in 1909. Sir Charles Tyser published a work on maritime insurance losses in 1894, a subject in which he was naturally interested, for his father was a shipowner and his mother the daughter of an underwriter. He translated Omar Hilmo Effendi’s Evkav law in 1899 and the Mejelle in 1901. He leaves a widow but no children.”
