From the North Devon Journal :-
"DEATH OF MR. F. RUDALL. OF CREDITON. - Mr. Francis Rudall, of Crediton, who was 93 years old on the 6th instant, died on Tuesday after a short illness. The name of Rudall has long been favourably associated with Crediton, for the deceased's uncle was for a very long period assistant minister of the parish. Mr. Rudall's father was a solicitor in a very extensive practice at Crediton, and Mr. Francis Rudall followed the same profession, commencing practice in London, but returning to Crediton in 1830. As Mr. Rudall had a clear memory, and a disposition that was always kind and happy, and abounded in anecdotes of the past, persons of all ages courted his society, and almost invariably left him delighted with his conversation. Mr. Rudall was a brother of the renowned London flautists, George Rudall, head of the firm Rudall, Rose and Carte, musical instrument makers; and he added such improvements to his favourite instrument that he obtained the first prize for his inventions at the Exhibition of 1851. Mr. Rudall married a relative of the celebrated Josiah Condon, editor of the 'Patriot' and she survives her husband. His only son Francis is well known among London amateurs of music for his skill on the flute; and, as a literary man, he has given a capital translation of one of Emile Souvestre's best works."
