"On Dec. 31, 1946, very peacefully in his sleep, Col. G. W. Palin, C.B., C.I.E., Indian Army (retired), late of Arnewood, Shiplake, Oxon., dear father of Charlton, Phyllis, and Gerald. Cremation at Reading Crematorium, to-morrow, (Friday) at 11 a.m. No flowers, no mourning. Manan-atha."

COLONEL G. W. PALIN
Colonel Gilbert Walter Palin, C.B., C.I.E., died on Wednesday at the age of 84, as already briefly announced. The second son of the late Lieutenant-General C. T. Palin, he was born on September 29, 1862, and was educated at Clifton. He entered the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in 1880, transferred to The north Staffordshire Regiment in 1883, an finally transferred to the Indian Army in 1885. His active service included the Zhob Valley expedition, the Suakim campaign, and the Tirah campaign. His gifts as an administrative officer were recognised by his appointment in 1905 as Director of Supply and Transport for the manoevers in honour of the visit of the Prince of Wales to India and in 1911 for the Durbar in honour of King George V. He served throughout the 1914-18 war. He married in 1889 Florence, eldest daughter of Colonel C. Swinhoe. She died in 1942. There were two sons and one daughter of the marriage."
