Obituary.10

From the Cheltenham Chronicle :-
"DEATH OF GENERAL OBBARD. - We regret to announce the death of Lieutenant-General H. S. Obbard, late Bengal Staff Corps and commandant of the 41st Bengal Infantry, which took place at his residence Loudoun, Painswick road in his 67th year. General Obbard was born on the 20th July 1824, and was thus in his 67th year. He joined the army in 1842, receiving his first commission on the 11th June in that year. He served in the Indian Mutiny in 1857, taking part in the operations in the Goorgaira district, receiving a medal, and in the Afghan war (1879-89); also receiving a medal. He attained his rank of Lieutenant-General in July, 1887. The funeral took place at Leckhampton churchyard on Thursday afternoon, Messrs Shirer and Haddon being the undertakers. The following were the mourners:- 1st carriage, Miss K. Obbard, Mrs Crawford, Major-Gen. T. Obbard, Major J. Obbard; 2nd carriage, Gen. Basden, Dr Swinhoe, Miss C. Hamilton; 3rd carriage, Col. Swinhoe, Mr. E. A. Swinhoe; 4th carriage, the servants. Amongst the numerous friends and neighbours who were present at the funeral were:- Gen. Bean, Gen. Warren, Col. Geddes, Surgeon-Gen. Heffernau, Deputy-Surg.-Gen. Watson, Col. Beddy, Col. Carlton, and Mrs and Miss Biddle. The service was conducted by Rev. Canon Hutchinson. There were a large number of choice floral wreaths and crosses."
