When Elizabeth had reached 21 John Romer asked the Executors and Trustees for a full account of their share of the estate of Robert Harris Cooper This was received in writing which showed the total to be only GBP 186.. He accepted this as money was needed. The Executors and Trustees also promised to surrender to Elizabeth Romer, née Cooper, her share of the copyhold property but this had not happened.

The Trustees and Executors had, since the death of Robert Harris Cooper, continued to receive all the rents and profits and had advanced small amounts of money to Esther Dench. The had refused to come to a settlement and had claimed that the estate was actually of little more value than that required to cover Robert Harris Cooper's debts.
