From the Times :-
"AIR CRASH IN THANET
FIVE MEN KILLED
Ramsgate, Oct.3
By the crashing of a large Vickers-Vimy machine at Marston Aerodrome shortly before noon to-day a flying office and four air mechanics lost their lives.
The machine had been for a flight over Thanet towns, and was ascending again in a strong wind with Flying Office Beal and Mechanics Curtis, Reeve, Thrupp, and Revell, when it crashed at a height of only a little over 100ft., having apparently been caught by a gust of wind. The pilot appeared to be recovering control when the machine hit the ground and burst into flames. Although some hours elapsed before the charred remains of the five men were recovered death had occurred instantaneously when the aeroplane struck the ground. Sergeant Greenan,R.A.F., who was on leave at a neighbouring cottage, rushed to the spot and tried to extricate one of the bodies, but was driven back by the flames."

Inquest in Manston Aerodrome.9

From the Times :-
"THANET AEROPLANE CRASH
INQUEST ON THE VICTIMS
A verdict of "Death from misadventure" was returned at the inquest at Manston Aerodrome yesterday on the bodies of Flying Officer LESLEY BEAL, and Air mechanics ALBERT REVELL, ROBERT REEVES, WALTER THRUBB, and TERENCE CURTIS, who were killed in the accident to a large Vickers-Vimy aeroplane on Monday. The bodies were burnt beyond recognition, and were identified by fragments of clothing.
Flying Officer Worsley said that he and four other persons " went up in the machine only a few minutes before it made its last flight, and it then behaved satisfactorily. He thought that Flying Officer Beal, who was an experienced pilot, turned without sufficient lying speed, and that caused the crash. The jury commended Sergeant Greenan, who had tried to extricate the men from the blazing machine."
