From the Manchester Guardian :-
"Mr. Guy David Luis Fernandes, a well-known Burnley brewer, died yesterday at his residence, Sandal Magna, Hesketh Park, Southport, at the age of 84. Mr. Fernandes, who was of Spanish descent, was born, near Wakefield, his father, who had married an Englishwoman, being a brewer there. Forty-six years ago Mr. Guy Fernandes married the daughter of the late Mr. John Hargreaves, of South Parade, Burnley, owner of the Old Brewery, Burnley, which then passed into his control. Connected with the brewery are about twenty-five licensed houses, including the Empress Hotel, one of the largest commercial houses in the district."
