From the GPO Appointment Books :-
"Ordered by the Right Hon. the Earl of Leinster His Majesty's Post Master General that the Six Clerks of the Roads in the Inland Office, for the time to come, pay out of the Profits arising from their News Papers, the annual sum of Fifty Pounds to Henry Potts the Comptroller of the said Inland office, by Quarterly Payments, as the share becomes due, to commence the 10th of October 1750. And their share be constantly paid by the Clerks of the Road for the future to whoever shall be Comptroller of the Inland Office in lieu of the share he ought to have of any of all News Papers sent by any of that office, the Comptroller being the Principal officer thereof & as a Precedent the proper share of Foreign Newspapers that pass through the Foreign Office has been ever allowed to the Comptroller thereof. Therefore it is but reasonable the Comptroller of the Inland Office should have the same.

"We hear that Henry Potts, Esq; Comptroller of the Post-Office, is appointed Secretary, in the room of George Sheldocke Esq; deceased. Mr. Bolton, one of the Clerks, is talk'd of to succeed Mr. Potts as Comptroller."

"Samuel Potts, Esq; is appointed Comptroller of the General Post-Office, in the room of his Uncle Henry Potts, Esq; promoted to Secretary in the room of George Sheldocke, Esq; deceased."

"On the Promotion of Mr. Potts to be Secretary to the Post-Office, his Nephew succeeds him as Comptroller; and Mr. Watts is appointed Deputy Comptroller."

"Yesterday about Three o'Clock in the Afternoon, Henry Potts, Esq; Secretary to the General Post-Office, took a Coach in St. Paul's Church-Yard, to go to his House in Pall-Mall; and having ordered the Coachman to stop at the Pastrycook's Shop the corner of Spring-Gardens, when the man opened the Coach-Door, he found Mr. Potts dead."

"Yesterday Richard Potts, Esq;  Secretary to the General Post-Office, took a coach at St. Paul's, to carry him to Spring-gardens. When the coachman opened the coach-door, he found Mr. Potts dead."
