As the mother and legal guardian of Mary Eden, a minor, she together with David Cooper applied to the Vicar General for a Licence for the Marriage between David Cooper and Mary Eden.

Extract from the Marriage Licence :-
"Then the said Elizabeth Bellis made Oath that she is the natural and lawful Mother of the said Minor, and one of the Executors of her late husband William and that the said Minor hath not any testamentary Guardian appointed by her Father in his late Will and that she is consenting to the above intended Marriage.
